Less than a year after announcing its Los Angeles chapter, Playback LA is beginning to feel less like a construction project and more like the creative headquarters it was designed to become.

Artists, writers, producers, engineers and music-industry professionals are moving through the building while development of the facility continues.

The concept behind Playback LA was never simply to rent rooms.

The studio was created around collaboration, allowing artists to encounter producers, engineers, writers and managers inside the same creative environment.

That idea is now beginning to work in practice.

As the rooms fill with sessions and the final pieces of construction come together, Playback LA is finding its identity.

Not simply as a recording facility.

As a creative community.
